Dana Expands Drivetrain Options to Support Vehicle Customization of Mid-Sized Wheel Loaders by Global Manufacturers

Time:29 Jan,2016
MUNICH, Jan. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Holding Corporation (NYSE: DAN) today introduced a series of drivetrain system enhancements for 20- to 25-tonne (22- to 28-ton) global wheel loaders that enable vehicle designers to specify components based on regional needs, market preferences, and particular end-user operational profiles. These upgrades include a flexible platform of Spicer® transmissions rated from 150 to 195 kW (200 to 260 hp) that delivers a range of features, as well as an expanded lineup of rigid planetary axles for wheel loaders that supports higher load capacities while reducing axle weight by up to 25 percent when compared with competitive offerings. "More than half of all global wheel loader sales are within the 20- to 25-tonne range. Therefore, vehicle platform standardization is a key competitive advantage for equipment makers looking to penetrate regional markets," said Aziz Aghili, president of Dana Off-Highway Driveline Technologies. "Dana offers a unique breadth of drivetrain options that manufacturers need to meet the widely varying operational demands found in the construction market today." Full Range of Transmissions for Mid-Sized Wheel Loaders Spicer transmissions for 20- to 25-tonne (22- to 28-ton) global wheel loaders start with models offering basic functionality and increase in complexity to advanced models with a full selection of in-demand features that boost machine productivity, enhance power management, improve operator and machine protection, and provide better operational diagnostics. This flexibility enables Dana to deliver a transmission platform that fits within a consistent design envelope, allowing global equipment manufacturers to maintain a base transmission design for platform standardization while offering the customization needed to engineer machines for specific market needs or end-user profiles. At Bauma 2016, Dana will showcase the Dana Rexroth hydromechanical variable transmission (HVT), Spicer TE Series powershift transmissions, and Spicer® Rui Ma™ TZL Series powershift transmissions. The Dana Rexroth HVT features a power-split design that delivers a full suite of configuration options and software controls. The HVT R2 is currently featured on Kalmar's new Gloria generation of reach stackers as part of the highly efficient Kalmar K-Motion drivetrain. Spicer® TE Series powershift transmissions are now available with three new bundles of optional features. The protection and diagnostics pack optimizes machine and operator safety, while the power-management pack reduces fuel consumption under varying operating conditions. The productivity pack, with an innovative pattern recognition technology, detects and learns repeated operator patterns, such as Y-cycles, and then automatically anticipates the need for gear shifts. Spicer Rui Ma TZL Series powershift transmissions are specifically engineered for wheel loaders in emerging market applications, providing improved fuel efficiency, productivity, durability, and reliability. Expanded Axle Options Dana is further bolstering its offering for 20- to 25-tonne (22- to 28-ton) wheel loaders with new Spicer 39R and 44R axles, which will be available later this year. Along with the upgraded Spicer 37R axle introduced in 2015, these axles offer a modular design with a differential carrier, as well as planetary and service-free brakes positioned inbound. Designed and built for global distribution, Dana's rigid planetary axles feature no-spin, limited-slip, Posi-Torq™ and Hydraloc™ differentials, and can accommodate a wide range of vehicle weights, tracks, and tire combinations. Completing Dana's full drivetrain system offerings for the mid-sized wheel loader market, Spicer® Wing® Series driveshafts offer low maintenance, ease of service, and a wide range of coupling and flange options.
