Moventas’ up-tower repair capabilities for the Siemens 2.3-MW turbine will save wind-farm owners considerable production downtime and expenses.
Moventas announced that low-speed planetary stage gears and bearings in the Siemens 2.3-MW wind turbines can now be repaired up-tower.
Much like the ability to repair the GE 1.5-MW (as recently announced by Moventas), this new up-tower repair capability for the Siemens 2.3 turbine promises to save wind-farm owners significant downtime and expense.
Gearboxes that would otherwise run to catastrophic failure up-tower, now have options for life extension at a price that is a fraction of that associated with changing out the gearbox.
The new repair process has already been successfully demonstrated on gearboxes in the Siemens 2.3 turbines. In each repair, customers can opt for longer life components by upgrading the boxes up-tower from hardened ring wheels and non-integrated bearings to state-of-the-art case carburized ring wheels and integrated planet wheel bearings.
“Following our game changing GE 1.5MW up-tower repair capability with this Siemens 2.3-MW up-tower repair, once again demonstrates our commitment at Moventas to provide drivetrain repair solutions that save customers the most money, reducing their cost of electricity,” said Steve Casey, Head of Moventas Americas’ Operations.
